Mihai Razvan Ungureanu resigned from the position of Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service for personal reasons.  The Presidential Administration stated through spokeswoman Madalina Dobrovolschi that "the Presidential Administration Office of the President of Romania received the resignation of the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Mr. Mihai Razvan Ungureanu. President Klaus Johannis accepted the resignation, and the leadership of the Service will be ensured in the next period by General Silviu Predoiu".  ...more »

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has attended alongside the President of the French Republic, Francois Hollande a new assembly plant of Airbus H215 helicopters, on the IAR Ghimbav platform, Brasov. Development of this project will create 350 new jobs until 2020. It is about a project implying investments worth EUR 51, 7 million, EUR 15, 5 million of which in infrastructure, and which benefits of state aid from the Romanian Government, in amount of more than 5 million euros....more »

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has nominated Dragos Tudorache for the position of minister of interior following the resignation of Petre Toba on September 1. The Prime Minister thanked Petre Toba for his work at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and expressed hope that he will clarify as soon as possible the situation with charges from the National Anticorruption Office DNA and suspicions of plagiarism for his doctorate thesis. ...more »

The general Parliamentary elections will be held on December 11, according to a decision passed by the Government. The Government also approved additions to the electoral legislation, in order to facilitate the exercise of the right to vote for the Romanian citizens residing abroad. ...more »

Four ministers have been reshuffled by Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, to stimulate a more efficient minsterial activity and projects development. “The ministers worked well on certain projects, but on others there were delays , there are things that can be done better and faster in the next period and this is why I decided to operate on these changes, for a new vibe and more accelerated rhythm of the government team”, Ciolos explains. He also added that other changes are possible in the next period. Education, Communications, and Romanians abroad were the ministries targeted by Ciolos, whereas the minister of Transport resigned. The nominations for the new ministers were approved by President Iohannis, and on 7th of July, Mircea Dumitru (Education), Sorin Buse (Transport), Maria Ligor (Relationship with the Romanians Abroad) took their vows at the Presidency. ...more »

After 10 years from the adherence to the EU, Romania's country project follows the consultations on Brexit held at the Presidential Palace. According to President Klaus Iohannis, all the parties present at the consultations agreed on participating at the elaboration of the country project, in a work group near the Presidency: “We need a new country project, a project for Romania, a project for Romania's future in the European Union”, he says, adding that “this group could function in optimal conditions even in electoral year”....more »

According to prime-minister Ciolos, the government will contest again at the Constitutional Court the special pensions of the elected locals, this time on other grounds. “The problem of these special pensions is that they do not respect the principle of contribution. Special pension means giving more that the the respective category contributed to the pension budget, so someone has to take on this surplus (…)They risk to affect the idea of pensions and public system itself”, says Ciolos....more »

Former Ambasador of Russia in Chisinau, Valerii Kuzmin, was appointed as ambassador in Bucharest, replacing Oleg Malghinov, according to TASS agency. Before Prime Minister Ciolos visits Canada in mid-June, Canada has sent a technical mission to Bucharest that is going to arrive this week in order to evaluate the situation of the frontiers, the passport service and other technicalities concerning the circulation of the citizens. This situation follows the negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement – CETA between the EU and Canada that eliminate customs taxes between the two, and will allow direct participation of the companies to public biddings, as well as liberalizing the services market....more »
