Romania's energy market regulator, ANRE, capped at 8.5% the rate of return (ROR) applied to investments made by electricity suppliers, cutting down on the previous rate of 10%. The new rate will apply both to the value of investments distributors in this field will make from now on and to the regulatory asset base for power distribution.Nonetheless, there might be added another 0.5% to the new ROR, provided the distributors direct their investments in smart energy and their technological consumption goes below the threshold established by ANRE....more »

Italy’s Nordelectrica Impianti was selected to build a 6.65 MW photovoltaic park for Productie Energie Verde, a company owned by local businessman Vladimir Cohn. More than 650 million Euro worth of electricity traded in the first half of 2013, 85% more than in the same time of last year.  The bilateral contract market, where buyers and sellers meet and sign long-term deals, saw the highest jump in amounts traded, according to OPCOM data. Traded volume on this market stood at 9.47 TWh of electricity or 36% of the country’s energy consumption, almost 5.5 times more than in the same time last year. The first IPO on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in five years, the public offering of 10% in Romania’s state-run nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica was received with interest from small investors. Small investors subscribed 2.3 times mores shares than they are offered at the IPO and allotted 90 million lei (EUR20.1 million) by 05:00 p.m.. They may subscribe 10% of the 25.3 million new shares the company wants to sell....more »

Even in these turbulent times for Renewable energy, PV plants are being constructed.  The juwi group just started the construction of two PV plants in Romania. The plants are situated near the towns Satu Mare (North-West Romania) and Butimanu (approx. 50 km north-west of Bucharest). They are being built by the Italian juwi subsidiary juwi Energie Rinnovabili Srl in cooperation with the Bulgarian subsidiary juwi Solar GmbH in Sofia....more »

Following a development stage of more than four years and a construction phase of approx. one year, VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, is putting into operation one of the largest on-shore wind farms of Europe, located near the Romanian Black Sea coast. Roughly one half of the 225 MW wind farm has been connected to the grid, further wind farms are to follow until the beginning of 2014. The investment volume is approx. € 380 million. A further expansion stage to 280 MW is planned until 2016. Romania ranks 5th in Europe in production of oil and gas after Norway, Great Britain, The Netherlands and Denmark according to Vasile Iuga, Managing Partner at PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PwC), South-Eastern Europe.The oil and gas produced in Romania amounted to 102 million BOE (Barrel of Oil Equivalent) last year, while Norway, the major European producer, drew 1.3 billion, followed by Great Britain – 583 million BOE, The Netherlands – 520 million BOE and Denmark – 114 million BOE.At the same time, Romania's dependence on imports is 25%, below the European average which is 50%....more »
