While Petrom approximates its investment will reach EUR1.2 billion this year, in 2014 they're going to invest about EUR0.8 - 1 billion in the business, said Mariana Gheorghe, General Director at Petrom, during the Reuters Investment Summit held in September.Gheorghe also talked about the possibility of Petrom expanding its business by entering the shale gas field, after Gerhard Rois, president at OMV (the group that owns Petrom) said last year that Romania should extract shale gas if geological studies indicated significant reserves....more »

In a market that has doubled between 2005 and 2012, despite the economic crisis, drugs sale will report a 5% growth each of the following five years as per the market research company, Cegedim Romania. A less rapid increase compared with the past years, but that will get the Romania's pharma market to EUR3.4 billion by 2018, whereas the last year reports show that medicine sales amounted about EUR 2.6 billion....more »

More than 650 million Euro worth of electricity traded in the first half of 2013, 85% more than in the same time of last year.  The bilateral contract market, where buyers and sellers meet and sign long-term deals, saw the highest jump in amounts traded, according to OPCOM data. Traded volume on this market stood at 9.47 TWh of electricity or 36% of the country’s energy consumption, almost 5.5 times more than in the same time last year. The first IPO on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in five years, the public offering of 10% in Romania’s state-run nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica was received with interest from small investors. Small investors subscribed 2.3 times mores shares than they are offered at the IPO and allotted 90 million lei (EUR20.1 million) by 05:00 p.m.. They may subscribe 10% of the 25.3 million new shares the company wants to sell....more »

Rosia Montana mining project has seized the public attention becoming a hot spot about three weeks ago when the Romanian Government sent to the Parliament a draft law to approve the start of mining in the area. The law in question, if voted, would have enabled the State to enforce locals living in the targeted mining area to relocate. Thousands of people throughout Romania have started a protest against this project and eventually succeeded to make their voice heard loud enough so that politicians stepped back fearing valuable voters support in the next elections. As usual, a special committee was formed to analyze and handle the issue, nnd eventually to decide in favor or against the mining project....more »

Even in these turbulent times for Renewable energy, PV plants are being constructed.  The juwi group just started the construction of two PV plants in Romania. The plants are situated near the towns Satu Mare (North-West Romania) and Butimanu (approx. 50 km north-west of Bucharest). They are being built by the Italian juwi subsidiary juwi Energie Rinnovabili Srl in cooperation with the Bulgarian subsidiary juwi Solar GmbH in Sofia....more »

Antibiotice Iasi, Romania's largest drugs supplier could expand its businesses throughout the region provided the company receives support from an investor. Besides that, an improved legislation would also be helpful according to the company's general manager, Ioan Nani.' Antibiotice can become a regional player, but it cannot do that all by itself. It must attract investors for further growth and development' said Nani during a conference.
