The National Bank of Romania (BNR) forecasts for 2017 an economic growth ranging between 4 pct and 5 pct, but this is in connection with the institution's macro-economic scenario, the central bank's governor Mugur Isarescu on Thursday told a news conference.  "The prediction in our model is confidential (...) it's somewhere between 4 pct and 5 pct. It's unrelated to the budget construction, do not put them in counterpart, we wouldn't want to create another issue in the society!...more »

Romania's trade balance deficit (FOB/CIF) hit 9.957 bln euro in 2016, by 1.591 bln euro higher than in the previous year, shows data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). In comparison with 2015, exports and imports increased last year by 5.1 pct and 7.0 pct, respectively. FOB exports totaled 57.385 billion euros, while CIF imports amounted to 6.734 billion euro. The product groups with a significant share in the country's trade were machines and transport equipment (47 pct for exports and 38 pct for imports) and other manufactured products (32.4 percent for exports and 31.0 percent for imports, respectively)....more »

The number of green certificates traded in January 2017 on the Green Certificates Centralized Market (PCCV) amounted to 6,371 units, a figure seven times bigger than that of the similar period last year, when 906 units were traded, according to data released by OPCOM, Romania's electricity and natural gas market operator.  In January, 56 sales offers and seven buying offers were launched, at a price of 132.404 lei per certificate....more »

Former Public Finance Minister Anca Dragu maintains that in 2016 there were registered approximately 1.5 billion lei savings in the budget, taking into account that, according to the current estimates, the year ends with a 2.59 percent budget deficit, under the initial 2.8 percent of the GDP initial target.  "Not only that we haven't exceeded the 2.8 percent of the GDP budget deficit target, but we have even had savings, taking into account that we have a deficit estimate at the year-end of 2.59 percent of the GDP. Romania exported in the first nine months of last year 9,926.7 tons of wine from fresh grapes, up by almost 22pct compared to the same period of the previous year when exports totaled 8,145.6 tons, according to the trade balance in agricultural products supplied to Agerpress by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). Collections stood at 15.013 million euros in the first nine months of 2016, being 35pct higher compared to the amounts obtained in the same period in 2015, namely 11.126 million euros. On the other hand, wine imports have exceeded exports 3.5 times in the mentioned period and totaled 3,5258.1 tons, also increasing compared to the quantities coming from external markets in the same period in 2015....more »
