Exports and imports, up nearly 6 percent in 2014. Trade deficit amounted to 6 bn euro

Romanian goods exports came to 52.5 billion euro in 2014, up 5.8 percent year-on-year, slightly outpaced by imports which rose by 5.9 percent totaling 58.5 billion euro, according to the preliminary estimations of the National Institute of Statistics (INSSE).

Based on the values expressed in lei-denominated currency, both exports and imports advanced by 6.4 percent compared to the values recorded in 2013.

As a result, the trade deficit expanded by 5.9 percent (given the amounts expressed in euro) to 6 billion euro (by 6.4 percent to 26.8 billion lei, based on lei-denominated currency).

Intra-community trade (Intra EU28) accounted for 71.1 percent of the total exports, deliveries amounting to about 37.3 billion euro (165.7 billion lei) and represented 75.4 percent of the total imports whose aggregate value added up to approximately 44.1 billion euro (195.9 billion lei). The extra-community trade had a smaller share in exports and imports – deliveries represented 28.9 percent of the total exports and the arrivals, 24.6 percent of the imports.

Last year, the following categories of products – transport equipment and vehicles and other manufactured products – have substantially influenced the structure of exports and imports.
