Romania Active, the Romanian Health Fitness Association says gyms should remain open throughout the pandemic

Leading health & fitness companies in Romania have joined their forces to launch RomaniaActive, the Romanian Health Fitness Association (RHFA), a strong initiative that is designed to promote the interests of all organisations which work towards getting more people, more active, more often.

The newly established association works in alliance with EuropeActive, the leading voice representing the European fitness sector, other European committees and also IHRSA, the Global Health & Fitness Association, to make sure that its members are at the fore-front of all new legislative changes concerning the health & fitness sector and are also involved in the development of these changes.  The vision of RomaniaActive is to be the Romanian voice for the health & fitness and physical activity sector.

Gyms are safe and should remain open even above 6/1000 rate says the association in a press release.

RomaniaActive strongly believes, based on the most prestigious medical studies, that it is vital to keep people physical active and that physical exercise strongly supports the health of the nation and the recovery of the Economy. Even the message of General Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is more than conclusive: "Being physically active can help to add years to life and life to years. Every move counts, especially now as we manage the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic".

“The founding of the RomaniaActive Association is a crucial step forward for the Romanian health & fitness sector. Active and healthy living is vital for the health of the nation and we need to make our industry a widely recognized priority and also resilient to future crisis and lockdowns. Romania Active is totally committed to improving the health of the nation through promoting health, fitness, physical activity and active lifestyles. We will be able to achieve this mission by facilitating impactful partnerships, campaigning and providing membership services. For that, we provide a supportive, professional and innovative platform that facilitates and accelerates our partners’ success in achieving their goals and together we create the conditions in which our sector can grow.”, said Kent Orrgren, RomaniaActive President.

An important objective of RomaniaActive is to draw the attention of the public opinion that the health & fitness sector had to manage on its own since the beginning of the pandemic, not having a real support from the authorities. The CAEN codes of the operators in the field were not included in the state aid schemes initiated by the Government.

All nine founding members of Romania Active, representing World Class, StayFit, Viva Sports Club, SmartFit, Stejarii Country Club, 4Moving, Elite Gym, Lotus Sport, Habit 30 Fitness, are committed to contribute to the growth of the health, fitness and physical activity sector from a current penetration rate of 4,2 % to above 7 % of active members of the Romanian population by 2025.
