Daimler opens its second gearbox drive assembly facility in Sebes

German concern Daimler which operates in Romania through Star Transmission inaugurated yesterday a new gearbox drive assembly unit in Sebes, Alba County. The production in the new plant is destined to Mercedes-Benz cars, the company spending nearly 40 million euro on this investment, according to Mediafax.

The expansion of the original production unit inaugurated last year in July lasted some ten months and is meant to support the overloaded production from Germany. Daimler announced in April 2013 that plans tu run an investment project amounting to 300 million euro for extending the gearboxes production at the Sebes plant.

Star Assembly, also held by Daimler, was provided over 37 million euro in state aid for building a production unit of automatic transmissions in Sebes, an investment worth about 238 million euro. The financing agreement was issued in late-August, 2013.

Star Transmission’s representatives said, according to Mediafax, that the project concerning the new production unit will be run through Star Assembly.
