EUR 252 million for the extension of the Bucharest metro network

The European Commission approved EUR 251.8 million in investments in six major infrastructure projects for the extension of Bucharest's 5th metro line.

"Thanks to the European Union, Bucharest will have a modern metro network. This will have a positive impact on the city's air quality, local companies, tourism and, of course, the inhabitants of the neighborhoods that will be served", said the European commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu.

Once the works have been completed, the new section will link the west of the city with the center, from the Raul Doamnei station to the Eroilor station, where the lines 1 and 3 are connected. It will have a length of 7 km, with 10 new stations and a depot.

From this section will benefit more than 64,000 people from Bucharest, who will travel between the two points in the city in less than a quarter of an hour. The completion of the works is scheduled for June 2018.
