Vimetco Extrusion has completed an investment of 19 million lei (4.3 million euro) in a programme aimed at enhancing efficiency, as well as its competitiveness. Part of the funds, 7 million lei, was provided by the European Union through the European Fund for Regional Development as grants.
The project targeted the increase of production and exports volume, as well as the expansion of product range through the acquisition of an extrusion press, a billets oven with cutting system and a molding oven, according to the company. With the new equipment, the company also seeks to streamline operations and increase its competitiveness so as to possibly reach new markets.
“Apart from widening the product range, the new technologies will also have a positive impact on overall costs, enabling us to reduce energy consumption”, said Igor Higer, CEO of Vimetco Extrusion, as per a press release.
Vimetco Extrusion is a subsidiary of Vimetco-Alro, one of the largest aluminum smelter in Central and Eastern Europe. Since late-2006, the company has operated as a supplier of aluminum profiles in the range of 6xxx alloys. Last year, Vimetco Extrusion recorded total sales of some 22,500 tons, level close to 2012, maintaining a focus on sales towards Germany and Northern European markets, while increasing the market share in Romania.
