US-based Kimball Electronics expands capacity in Europe with a new operation in Timisoara

Kimball Electronics, a global contract electronic manufacturing services company specialized in durable electronics for the medical, automotive, industrial and public safety markets, announced plans to expand their capacity in Europe by opening a second operation in Timisoara, Romania, to add to the existing unit from Poland.

"We are very excited to be making this investment in Romania”, stated Janusz Kasprzyk, Vice President European Operations in a press release. "The new operation in Romania will be an excellent complement to our existing operation in Poland and provide our customers with additional options for their preferred solution".

The new set-up will be located near the Timisoara airport and includes a 6,000 square meter facility comprising multiple production lines.

In this respect, the company purchased a 2 ha plot from a local developer who will build the facility and will sell it to Kimball on completion. The price tag for the project, including the equipment, is estimated at 6 to 10 million euro, according to market sources quoted by Mediafax.

Kimball anticipates that production employment will start in the third quarter of 2015.

"This year we will celebrate our 15th anniversary since establishing our operations in Poland and we have been very pleased with the accomplishments of our team there. The addition of Romania is a natural fit in our strategic plan to support the growth initiatives of our customers and we are confident that we will build a capable and competent team here too", stated Don Charron, Chairman and CEO of the company.

Kimball Electronics is headquartered in the United States and it has manufacturing operations in China, Mexico, Poland, and Thailand.
