Prime Minister Viorica Dancila meets U.S. Ambassador Hans Klemm

Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dancila welcomed the U.S. Ambassador H.E. Hans Klemm on a presentation visit.

On the occasion of the meeting, the Romanian Prime Minister and the U.S. Ambassador briefy reviewed the Romania-U.S. Strategic Partnership, noting its very positive dynamics in 2017 and its further development prospects.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă voiced her firm commitment and that of the entire Cabinet to further expand and deepen the Strategic Partnership on all its dimensions, highlighting the special role  Romania attaches to its relationship with the United States in its overall foreign and security policy.

Upon reviewing the decisive aspects of the Romanian-American bilateral cooperation, the Romanian Prime Minister approached the discussion regarding the prospects for lifting this year the short-stay visa requirements for Romanian citizens travelling to the United States by including Romania in the Visa Waiver Program.

Further, the Romanian official emphasized the significant increase in the resources allocated by Romania to the armed forces’ endowment and the increase of their capabilities, voicing her belief that the procurement programmes will play an important role in the overall Strategic Partnership, being about to produce effects beyond the collaboration in security issues, including boosting Romania –U.S. economic cooperation.

Both officials expressed their determination to work together to strengthen the economic component of the Strategic Partnership, starting from the very good results of the bilateral cooperation in 2017.

The Head of the Executive also outlined the consistency of Romania's candidacy for OECD membership, asking the US for support to advance it.

Ambassador Hans Klemm voiced his conviction regarding the continuation of positive dynamics in the bilateral relationship and the interest of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Bucharest in continuing dialogue with the Romanian institutions in order to implement the joint projects and capitalize on the opportunities offered by the Strategic Partnership for promoting the two partners’ values ​​and interests.
