Bucharest Airports National Company (BANC) reports an increase of 5.4 percent in the number of passengers in the last month of 2013, maintaining a growth rate of over five percentage points for the second month in a row. Overall, the last year brought a progress of 1.35 percent in the passenger traffic for the two airports located in the Romanian capital - Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni) and Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (Baneasa), according to a BANC’s press release.
A similar advance has been recorded in terms of revenue which amounted to approximately 142.5 million euro (644 million lei), up 5 percent over 2012. Thus, the gross preliminary profit, totalling about 17.26 million euro (78 million lei), was three times higher than the amount budgeted for 2013. Furthermore, the preliminary turnover reported growth exceeds 10 percent compared with 2012, amounting to over 135.6 million euro (613 million lei).
The same informing source states that 84 percent of the passengers of Henri Coanda International Airport (HCIA) which registers major air traffic compared with Baneasa Airport, departed to or arrived from the European Union. There are 34 air operating airlines carrying passengers to 71 destinations worldwide. Two airline operators - easyJet and Air Serbia - started their businesses on HCIA last year, and Ryanair will follow as from March 2014.
BANC began operations four years ago and ensures operational coordination and management of the two airports of the city, being established through the merger of the two companies that were managing the two said airports.
