Polish juice manufacturing group Maspex
Wadowice has acquired Romanian mineral water producer Rio Bucovina,
the transaction being subject to approval by the Competition Council.
Rio Bucovina is the second largest
manufacturer of water in terms of volume sales in the Romanian
market, with a market share of about ten percent. As part of the
deal, Maspex Wadowice plans to acquire three manufacturing plants in
the cities of Vatra Dornei, Giurgiu and Timisoara.
Maspex Wadowice president Krzysztof
Pawiński said: “In Romania, we have a very strong position in the
segment of instant products with brands La Festa and Ekland; the
market for juices, nectars and drinks with brands Tedi and Tymbark;
and in the category of crackers and pretzels with the brand Salatini.
In the water market until now, we did not, and this is a category
that is growing.
The lawyers involved in the transaction
were RTPR Allen Overy on behalf of the buyer and Mares Danilescu
Mares represented the seller. Romania is the second largest market
for Maspex after Poland, both in terms of turnover and investments
made, as well as purchasing power. Currently Maspex Romania is known
as a manufacturer of instant products, juices, nectars and soft
drinks, pasta, crackers and pretzels. The company entered the
Romanian market in 1996 and is now one of the largest Polish
investors in Romania.
