Romanian and Chinese presidents meet and talk about cooperation
September 28 2015
Romanian president Klaus Iohannis and
Chinese president Xi Jinping met at the UN Summit in New York on
September 26 and discussed plans to strengthen cooperation. Stressing the need to pursue substantial results, Xi said China is willing to work
with Romania to boost cooperation in energy and infrastructure
development within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt and
21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative and push for progress on
key projects” Xinhuanet.com reports. President Xi reportedly emphasized the importance of the longstanding friendship
between Romania and China as well as the necessity to strengthen
current cooperation efforts stating “It is also necessary for the
two countries to deepen people-to-people exchanges and expand
cooperation in tourism, culture, art, publication and other areas, so
as to consolidate public support for bilateral relations”. The fact that Romania was one of the
first countries to establish relations with the People's Republic of
China and that it has always supported it in its interests is
apparently held in high regard by the Chinese president who was
cited as saying that the Chinese people cherish Romania's friendship.
