September 29 2015
Romanian president Klaus Iohannis told
Americans who participated at the BestInvest Economic Forum in New
York that the US can become a principal investor in Romania. According to Agerpres, the head of
state claimed that American investments are welcomed in Romania and
that he believes the US can become one of the most important
investors in the country. “The Romanian economy has many
advantages: sustained economic growth, financial and monetary
stability, reduced public debt, well trained workforce and numerous
natural resources. Romania is an element of stability for the entire
region” the same source cites him as saying. Iohannis apparently also made reference
to the increasing rate at which commerce is conducted between the US
and Romania, but, that in order to be able to take advantage of all
given economic opportunities, barriers against free trade must be
overcome. Protection of property, reduction of
bureaucracy, a more efficient approach to public administration and
the combating of corruption are a few of the ways he suggested
investor trust could be regained.
The president also stressed the
importance and investment potential of the energy sector and capital
market environment in Romania. In this respect, Iohannis expressed
his country's support for the Transatlantic Trade an Investment
Partnership.
