She stated that Romania's economy cannot grow based solely on export and internal consumption.
“It is true that Romania registered an important economic growth, but let's look at the source of the growth […] One of the reasons for which Romania had a negative budgetary deficit was the low investment rate. The country cannot grow based solely on internal consumption and exports because these are the principle sources of economic growth in Romania, but rather it needs investments.
All those who travel around the country – and I travel often myself- know how big the need is for investment in adequate infrastructure- starting with transportation, but also in other areas. We need infrastructure in this country” she stated.
Filote also added that, contrary to popular belief, the European Commission is not against raising salaries and relaxing the tax regime if these measures are taken in an adequate and well thought out way.
A possible solution to these current financial worries was suggested by Ismail Radwan, Lead Public Sector Management Specialist for the World Bank during the Foreign Investors Summit 2015. He noted that it was indeed a positive thing to have corrupt people imprisoned , however, it is just as important to have an entity which could recover the stolen money from these people.
Alexandru Nastase, Secretary of State in the Department for Foreign Investment spoke in Prime Minister Victor Ponta's name at the event while stating that the Government is ready to fight corruption and that it is important to recover the money from such people. At the same time he observed that this is a complicated process.
This is indeed the case,at the same time though, Romania would benefit from the existence of such an entity.
