Irish St. Patrick’s Day celebrations kick off in Bucharest Parade

The green celebration of St. Patrick’s Day hits the streets of Bucharest on Sunday, March 20th, with a Parade organized by Ireland Romania Network.

His Excellency, Mr. Derek Feely, Ambassador of Ireland to Romania, and Mr. John Long, president of Ireland Romania Network will open the parade that starts on Kiseleff Blvd., at the Peasant’s Museum, at 3 PM, and will finish two hours later in front of the Romanian Athenaeum.

The event will gather over 100 pipers and drummers, as well as two local Irish dancing teams, Irish Way and STEYsha. Forty service dogs born and bred in Ireland will show up at the parade.

Every year on March 17th the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This holiday particularly remembers St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, who brought Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century. What began as a feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become a global festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, food and drink and a whole lot of green.
