Censure motion to be debated and voted next Wednesday

The debates and the vote on the no confidence motion will take place next Wednesday, 21 June, starting with 11:00 am, the Chamber of Deputies informs in a press release. On Sunday, 18 June, the text of the censure motion called "Romania cannot be seized. We defend democracy and Romanians' vote" was read in front of the joint chambers of the Parliament. The document was initiated and signed by 223 PSD (Social Democratic Party, major at rule) and ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, minor at rule) deputies and senators, a release by the Chamber of Deputies informs.

The representatives of the parliamentary groups of the PNL (National Liberal Party), USR (Save Romania Union), UDMR (Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania) and PMP (People's Movement Party) did not attend the sitting.

Romania's Parliament counts for 464 members, and in order for a censure motion to pass, it requires 233 votes.

According to the websites of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the PSD has 221 MPs in both chambers, whilst the ALDE counts 26 MPs, all in all 247 members of the ruling coalition.

As for the parties outside the governmental coalition, the PNL (National Liberal Party) has 98 MPs, the USR (Save Romania Union) 43, the UDMR (Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania) 30, the PMP (People's Party Movement) 26, the minorities (other than Hungarian) 17, and 3 are non- affiliated MPs.

According to Art. 113, para 3 of Romania's Constitution, a no confidence motion is debated 3 days since it has been presented in the joint session of the two chambers of the Parliament.
