The Ministry of Economy and Rommar, through the Mecanica Plant Bucharest, and the American company General Dynamics signed a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement, with the participation of Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.
According to a government press release, through signed documents, the two parties undertake to collaborate, in accordance with the assumed objectives regarding the endowment of the Romanian Armed Forces, in view of the production and delivery of Piranha 5 armored vehicles to the Ministry of National Defense.
The Memorandum establishes the preliminary guidelines for cooperation and future actions aimed at establishing a joint venture between the Mecanica Plant Bucharest and General Dynamics to produce armored vehicles for the Romanian Army, the source quoted explains.
Within the future company, the Mecanica Plant Bucharest will participate with assets consisting of manufacturing lines and employees, who will undergo training courses at the American company headquarters.
General Dynamics will participate in this joint venture with investments in upgrading production capabilities and integrating armored vehicle production, the government said. The company owns the Swiss manufacturer of Mowag armored conveyors.
"The collaboration between a state-owned company in Romania and the American company General Dynamics is an extraordinary moment for the Romanian defense industry," said Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.
