The Senate voted for capping the price of medicines and foods of strict necessity

With 79 "for" votes, 39 "against" and 12 abstentions, the Romanian Senate gave a favorable vote in an online plenary session, to the draft law for capping the price of medicines and foods of strict necessity.

The project stipulates that at the manufacturer's delivery prices, the maximum addition for the entire distribution and retail chain will be a maximum of 10% for the entire period of emergency status and for a period of no more than 90 days from the date of establishing the emergency status.

"The shelf prices of medicines, sanitary materials, medical devices and the like provided for by the legislation in force are capped, as follows: at the cost of production, the addition can be up to 10% of this cost, and on the distribution chain the addition total may not exceed 10% of the producer's sale price, in accordance with the provisions of article 4, paragraph 3 in the Competition Law no 21/1996 republished with the subsequent modifications and completions ", is shown in the project initiated by the parliamentary group of the PSD.

The law applies throughout the period of the decree of the state of emergency, as well as 30 days after the cessation of the state of emergency.

Failure to comply with these provisions constitutes a contravention and is sanctioned with a fine starting from 5 million lei, but not more than 4% of the turnover.

The Senate is the first Chamber notified in the case of this bill.
