First Biogaz SRL, member of BIOGEST Austria, invests 6 million euro in a biogas plant in Northern Romania – Ardud, Satu-Mare County. The investment project is financed by BCR Romania, being one of the few biogas projects developed up to this point in Romania.
‘The biogas plant – an investment of approximately 6 million euro – has an installed power of 1.5MW and the electricity produced can cover the energy necessary for about 4.500 households. The generated heat will be used for an existing grain drying equipment and a fish farm.’ Martin Schlerka, BIOGEST’s CEO, said, according to a bank’s press release.
BCR’s interest into the renewable energy sector in Romania is also confirmed by Tobias Waldemar Seiferth, the bank’s Chief of Department for International Clients: ’From our position of Romania’s banking system leader, BCR has a direct interest in financing and developing the local economy, including the renewable energy sector. We carry on financing in the renewable energy sector by providing a loan to First Biogaz SRL. Thus, BCR is particularly interested in financing renewable energy projects which represent an important growth factor of Romania’s economy.’
Biogas is a renewable energy source that has some technological, environmental and economic advantages, usually referring to a gas produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Recycled waste is an important resource in biogas production that has significant role in the renewable energy mix – solar, hydro and wind.
BIOGEST is an international biogas plant manufacturer, located in Austria, but also operating in countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Serbia, Czech Republic and, of course, Romania where finalized so far over 90 projects. The company’s main activity ranges from project development, planning, financing or operating biogas plants with installed power between 100kW and 3.500kW.
