Renovatio Trading launches 60.96 MWh Energy Storage Project

Renovatio Trading has embarked on an ambitious energy storage project aimed at enhancing the country’s energy resilience and sustainability. The project in Toplița, Harghita County, is supported by funding through Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), under Component C6 for Energy.

This initiative falls within Investment Measure I.4, which focuses on developing an industrial chain for producing, assembling, and recycling batteries, photovoltaic cells, panels, and related equipment, with specific emphasis on new electric energy storage capacities.

The overarching goal of this project is to install and operationalize a new energy storage capacity in the form of battery systems in Toplița by June 30, 2026. This addition will bolster Romania’s commitment to its energy objectives within the PNRR framework, specifically aligning with Investment Measure I4, Sub-Measure 3, which aims to promote investments in new electric energy storage capacities.

Once completed, the project will add a storage capacity of 60.96 MWh. This capacity alone is expected to contribute approximately 12.7% toward Romania’s national target of 480 MWh of new battery storage, a significant step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and promoting a more sustainable energy infrastructure.

The project specifically targets the establishment of a battery-based storage capacity totaling 60.96 MWh in Toplița.

The total project value amounts to 136,491,453.52 RON, with 111,531,724.28 RON designated as eligible expenses. The project also benefits from a maximum non-refundable grant of 15,164,708.72 RON, made available through PNRR funding.
