Alba Iulia’s wastewater treatment plant secures energy consumption with a cogeneration project

Apa CTTA Alba, the company controlling wastewater treatment operations in the Alba County, secures the internal electricity consumption in the new wastewater treatment station in Alba Iulia by integrating a cogeneration plant in the project scheduled for completion in March 2015.

The cogeneration plant has an installed electric power capacity of 150 kW and an installed thermal power capacity of 204 kW, respectively, according to a press release of Jetrun EnergoEco, the company delivering the equipment. By using the biogas obtained from wastewater treatment, the facility will produce energy which will be used both for heating purposes and in internal operations requiring electric power, being designed to generate up to 3.6 MWh daily given a 24/7 functioning.

The project, including the CHP plant, has an estimated value of 10 million euro, part of the funds being provided by the European Union under the Operational Programme “Environment”. The related contract was concluded by Apa CTTA Alba in March 2012 with the winners of the bid, Hochtief Solutions AG and Von Roll BHU Umwelttechnik GmbH, the German companies subcontracting the work out to Hidroconstructia Sebes.
