Plastics processor Romcarbon will implement this year two investment projects aimed at introducing high tech equipment in packaging production and plastics recycling. Total investment comes to 6.5 million euro of which 2.25 million euro are the company’s own financial resources, whilst the remainder was secured from financing agreements.
More than half of the amount of investment, some 4 million, was allocated to a sorting, washing and processing line for plastics waste, that will increase the amount of plastics waste processed annually to over 30,000 tons.
The second project supported through a 2.5 million euro investment is destined to packaging production - thermoformed trays for food industry which will be manufactured using recycled plastics material provided by Greenfiber International, according to a press release of Romcarbon. Upon completion of this investment, the production capacity in the trays sector will be of 8,000 tons per year, while the domestic demand in this market is some 40 percent lower (about 5,000 tons/year). Thus, the surplus production will be exported.
With these projects, the total investments made by Romcarbon in the past two years would add up to 15 million euro, following an investment worth 8.5 million euro implemented in 2012 in a new compounds facility.
Headquartered in Buzau, Romcarbon has four operating work centers across Romania, in Buzau, Bucharest, Stefanesti and Iasi. Last year, the plastics processor which is listed at the Bucharest Stock Exchange since 2007, posted a net turnover of some 142 million lei and a marginal profit net of 52,000 lei, according to the financial report available on the Ministry of Finance website.
