eMAG IT Research will set up a software development center in Romania’s capital city, Bucharest, which will support the expansion of eMAG platform in Europe. The new center will employ about 200 people and will deliver the first software application this fall in October, expecting to come up with some 25.8 million euro for the regional development in the coming seven years.
Established in May 2014 by Dante International, the company which also operates the online retailer, eMAG IT Research will be focused on developing software applications for online commerce. Besides this, Dante decided to establish two other companies specialized on acquisitions and online marketing as part of the expansion strategy.
For the new project, “The Software Development Center eMAG IT Research”, the Ministry of Public Finance approved a state aid worth 6.65 million euro, according to a press release.
With sales of over 188 million euro in 2013, eMAG anticipates combined revenues of some 260 million euro this year generated by the e-commerce platforms it operates in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.
Established in 2002 as an online platform for selling computers and office products, eMAG has become one of the leading companies in the domestic e-commerce market. The e-tailer is controlled by the South African group Naspers which become the major shareholder in 2012 when took over 70 percent of the total shares.
