Romania’s Ambassador to the EU, Mihnea Motoc, nominated for MFA as Melescanu resigned

Romania’s Ambassador to the European Union, Mihnea Ioan Motoc, has been nominated to replace Teodor Melescanu as Minister of Foreign Affairs according to a notification of the Government. Prime Minister Victor Ponta has announced previously today that Motoc will be proposed for this position as Melescanu submitted his resignation from the Cabinet after the troubled presidential voting in the Romanian diaspora.

Since 2008, Mihnea Motoc serves as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Romania to the European Union, position he also held in relation to the United Nations between 2003 and 2008. His previous career includes various diplomatic roles, as well as the position of State Secretary for European Integration and Multilateral Affairs within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1989 he graduated the Law School at the University of Bucharest, while in the ‘90s he completedPost-graduate studies in International Public and Private Law at the University of Nice in France and a Master programme in International Public and Comparative Law, at the George Washington University, Washington D.C.
