Rombat, the Romanian battery producer, extended its plant in Bistrita upon completing a EUR17 million investment, this September. The production has already been launched in the new production facility which is designed to deliver up to 700.000 batteries annually. Based on this investment, which is 40% financed through a governmental grant, the production capacity will reach 3.3 million units each year.
The freshly launched unit is focused on manufacturing batteries to equip cars based on start-stop technology and regenerative breaking system, systems that meet the EU requirement regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions.
By extending the production plant, Rombat seeks meeting requirements of the future market using EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) and AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technologies.
'This new investment is an answer to a present and a future demand of our customers, especially the car producers", said Ioan Repede, General Director at Rombat.
Rombat, which is holded by the South-African group Metair, is the leader in the Romanian aftermarket sector, with its sales doubling between 2006 and 2012. The company delivers batteries for Dacia, Renault, Peugeot and Nissan, on the external market over 60% of Rombat products being sold in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain or France where it holds the biggest market share – 10% of the market.
