In its strategy for the TAROM national air carrier, the Transport Ministry aims either to turn private some of the airline or enter cooperation with a big company, Transport Minister Ioan Rus told the Romanian Senate's Transport Committee adding that negotiations are underway with the Economy Ministry to take over the Romaero air services provider, reports Agerpress."Our strategy includes turning private part of TAROM and cooperating with a big company. We are open to any version that would speed up things.
TAROM needs to reduce its losses, but also to renew its fleet and
invest ... I am currently in negotiations with the Industry Ministry for a takeover of Romaero, so that they may create another company for maintenance services for TAROM than the existing one. TAROM is limping a bit and we are desperately looking for a solution," Rus to the Transport Committee.
He added that all the other companies operating under the authority of the Transport Ministry are reporting operational profits. "All the other companies operating under the authority of the Transport Ministry are currently reporting operational profits. There is no loss-making company in our portfolio. The only company that we have failed to bring in the black is TAROM," added Rus.
